Funding opportunities

Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP)

The Life Long Learning Programme consists of four

sub-programmes: Comenius, Erasmus, Leonardo

da Vinci and Grundtvig. Erasmus focuses on European

mobility and transnational cooperation between

universities. The programme has been designed for

university students, teachers and other people who

want to study, work or teach abroad.

7th Framework Programme

Within the Seventh Framework Programme, fellowships

are dealt with by the “People - Human Potential, Marie

Curie Actions” programme. One of the programme priorities

is to exchange personnel between the academic world and private companies.

Erasmus Mundus          

The European Commission has renewed the Erasmus Mundus programme by announcing the second run of the programme for the period 2009–2013. The objective of the programme is to enhance cooperation of higher education institutions, to support the mobility of (non)European students, researchers and university staff, to develop human resources and to promote European higher education. The Erasmus Mundus programme supports three types of activities, two of which deal with scholarships/fellowships and mobility.

EEA/Norwegian Financial Mechanisms

The six priority areas of financial mechanisms include, besides others, support to the development of human resources and scientific research and development. However, for the period 2009–2014 no grant award mechanisms have been established. At present, there are no invitations to submit grant applications.  A new call for grant applications will be announced as soon as Phase II of the programme has been approved, if any.

SCIEX-NMSch Programme –Fellowship Fund

This programme is part of the Programme of Swiss – Czech Cooperation and has been announced for the period 2009–2016. The fellowship fund has been designed for doctoral and post-doctoral candidates.  The main purpose and objective of the programme is to enhance and promote scientific cooperation.

AKTION Programme

This programme focuses on bilateral co-operation between the Czech Republic and Austria. Within this framework programme the AKTION Czech Republic– Austria programme focuses on academic and research stays in the other county and participation in various summer language courses and projects enhancing cooperation between Czech and Austrian tertiary educational institutions. The Programme of Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Czech Republic and Austria is another programme supporting the mobility of research workers participating in joint research projects.

Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies (CEEPUS)

The CEEPUS Programme is directed towards multilateral regional (central and east European) cooperation within university networks. It is designed for the students of the second year of studies and higher, for the postgraduate students, and for university teachers.

Fulbright Commission

Fulbright scholarship programmes enable Czech citizens to study, carry out research and teach in the USA. Similarly, Czech educational and research institution can get a teacher or a scientist from the USA.

Visegrad Scholarships

This programme has been designed to enable individual applicants to study master’s and postgraduate programmes abroad.

There are also two programmes aimed to support research, experimental development and innovations which are just going through the approval process. One of them is the ERC CZ programme focusing on the projects of so called “frontier research”, and the second one is called “Return” and its objective is to provide financial support to successful scientists returning home from abroad. The programmes will be administered by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and they are scheduled to be launched in 2012.
