Health care
Foreigners are obliged to present
their certificate of health insurance
to Foreign Police carrying out the Residency Check.
The certificate must be issued by an insurance
company which is authorized to provide health
insurance in the Czech Republic (insurance company
with the registered office in the Czech Republic
and included in the list of subjects authorized
by the Czech National Bank).
By presenting this certificate, the foreigner
proves that s/he is able to cover the costs
incurred as a result of an accident or sudden
illness during his/her stay in the Czech Republic,
including any costs related to his/her repatriation
to the country that issued his/her travel document
or to the country where s/he has legal residence.
The minimal coverage must be EUR 60 000 excluding
any financial contribution to the aforesaid costs on the part of the insured person.
Foreigners are also obliged to present the certificate of health insurance when
applying for long-term residence permit issue or renewal or for a visa for stay
over 90 days, which is issued by a Czech embassy abroad.
Besides this, foreigners are also obliged to present a document certifying the payment of insurance premium shown on the Travel Health Insurance document. This document does not have to be presented by a foreigner insured under a special legal regulation (e.g. an employed foreigner participating in the national health insurance scheme); in this case the foreigner presents his/her European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
