Outline

For this exciting project, in collaboration with Tagore Technologies Inc, the candidate will work with the newest transistor technologies to design power amplifiers for the new frequency bands needed for 5G systems

The next generation of mobile communications will make use of complex architectures for base-station transmitters. Consequently, power amplifiers meeting even stringent system requirements compared to present systems will be required.

You will characterise these transistors in the state-of-the-art laboratories of the Centre for High Frequency Engineering and develop ad-hoc device models. You will also study the most common power amplifier architectures and propose new solutions, including reconfigurable networks, to tackle the challenging requirements.  

Constant interaction with the industry sponsor will guarantee that the conducted research is timely and has the greatest impact on the high frequency community. This opportunity would suit an interest in high frequency electronics, analogue electronics design, wireless and mobile communications, and 5G.

What is funded

Full UK/EU tuition fees. This studentship is open to Home or EU candidates. Overseas candidates may apply but must confirm that they are able pay the difference between home and overseas fees (approx. £14K pa) themselves. Start date: October 2018.

You should hold or expect to gain a first class degree or a good 2:1 (or their equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, or a related subject.
