The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (ICE-HT) of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), in the framework of the project ARCHERS, which is funded by an exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, is seeking to recruit applicants for two (2) postdoctoral/research assignments. The project aims at reducing or even reversing the brain drain by providing high quality research opportunities to young scientists of Greek origin.


Job Description

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation – FORTH fellows are expected to perform high quality research within one of the research areas, in which FORTH/ICE-HT excels both on the national and the international level (www.iceht.forth.gr). More specifically, the domains of interest in the present project are the preservation of cultural heritage and the science and innovation in the areas of environment, clean energy and health.


Research areas

  1. Electrochemical Raman spectroscopy of 2D materials
  2. Nanomaterials for energy conversion and energy saving devices


Eligibility criteria for research area 1

  • PhD in Nanotechnology, Graphene and related materials, Raman spectroscopy, Electrochemistry or physical/chemical doping

Criteria for Selection

  • PhD in project related discipline
  • Experience in Raman spectroscopy of nanomaterials
  • Experience in manipulating graphene and related materials
  • Experience in electrochemistry
  • Ability to perform independent research
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Proven research and lab experience in the investigation of nanomaterials


Eligibility criteria for research area 2

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science
  • Good knowledge of Greek and English language

Criteria for Selection

  • PhD in project related discipline
  • Ability to perform independent research (at least 3 years’ experience as post-doctoral researcher in project research area is highly recommended)
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience in synthesis and electrochemical characterization of semiconducting nanomaterials
  • Experience in solar energy devices and energy saving devices


Location: ICE/HT-FORTH, Patras, GREECE

Expected start date: 01/01/2019 or 01/02/2019

Duration of appointment: 12 months

  • At least one reference letter (optionally, the reference letter could be enclosed in an envelope that must reach Ms. Kleanthi Zacharopoulou at the address: ICE-HT-FORTH, Stadiou Street, Platani, Patras 26504 by the closing date for applications; the closed envelope will be handed to the evaluation committee)

Selection Announcement

The result of the selection will be announced on the website of ICE/HT-FORTH.

Candidates have the right to appeal the selection decision, by addressing their written objection to the ICE/HT secretariat within five (5) days after the result announcement on the web. They also have the right to access (a) the files of the candidates as well as (b) the table of candidates’ scores (ranking of candidates results). All the above information related to the selection procedure will be available at the secretariat of ICE/HT-FORTH in line with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority.
