Project Title: Up-scaling the growth of metal/oxide bilayer systems for non-volatile magnetoelectric effects: magneto-ionics and ferroelectric/ferromagnetic heterostructured multiferroics.


Objectives: Fabrication of two types of metal/oxide bilayers at wafer level: (a) Ni/HfO2 (for magneto-ionics) and Ni/BaTiO3 (artificial heterostructured multiferroic); comparative study of ME effects in the continuous films and lithographed patterns; optimization of non-volatility of ME effects for memory applications.

Expected results: Optimized sputtering conditions for dense Ni/HfO2 and Ni/BaTiO3 films at wafer level; identification of sample size effects (ME effects in continuous and patterned structures); basic structural characterization; achievement of stable (non-volatile) voltage-controlled effects (ON-OFF ferromagnetism, changes of coercivity, easy axis reorientation, etc.) for magnetic anti-hacking security devices.

TTS – Thin film Technological Service is a small Czech private company located in Prague specializing in design and deposition of thin films for microelectronics, optics and other applications. It has a background in the R&D community for the electronics industry in Czechoslovakia and a history of 26 years as a private company (founded in 1992). Main products of TTS are thin film metallization (used mainly in sensor applications), thin film dew point sensors for trace moisture detection and custom-made thin films for special applications or substrates. R&D is a top priority for TTS and it regularly participates R&D projects funded by the Czech government. In recent years TTS started to be more involved also in space industry and its products are currently evaluated on board of VZLUSAT-1 nanosatellite. (http://www.tts-co.eu).

BeMAGIC project is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network that offers the possibility to pursue the PhD within the Network at different universities/research centres/companies across Europe. The duration of the appointment is 3 years, starting in April 2020, and the gross salary is 29 300 € / year. Importantly, the Marie Curie eligibility criteria must be respected. Eligible early-stage researchers (ESRs) are those who are, at the date of recruitment by the host institution, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate. In addition, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Researchers can be nationals of any country (including all countries outside Europe).
