The Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, represented by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Ismaili Imamat, represented by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), hereby launch the second call for joint scientific and technological research projects aiming to foster the welfare of people and building scientific, technical, social science & humanities research towards advances in Quality of Life (QOL) in Africa.


The present call is open to new collaborative research projects between Portuguese, African Countries and AKDN research and academic institutions, in order to help develop initiatives that can have a meaningful impact in consolidate research capacity in Africa.


For this call, the foreseen overall amount of funding available is 2.500.000,00 €. Each of the projects approved under the present Call for Proposals will be funded up to a maximum of 250.000,00 € for a maximum period of 36 months.


The following institutions from Portugal, African countries and AKDN from all over the world are eligible for funding: higher education institutions, their institutes and R&D centres; Associated Laboratories; State Laboratories; private non-profit institutions that carry out science and technology activities; nongovernmental organizations with social purposes (ONGs); companies, if within projects led by R&D institutions of public or private non-profit character; other public and private non-profit institutions that carry out or participate in research activities.


One proposal (in English) must be submitted by the Coordinator until the 30 September 2019 (17h00, Lisbon time), using the online application form. It should be presented as a unique research project with the additional required documents requested.
