Offer Description
In the framework of the EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network LUMIERE - “Liquid phase Ultrafast photoeMIssion spEctroscopy of nonadiabatic photoREactions in biomimetic systems”, UCT Prague offers a PhD position supervised by prof. Petr Slavíček.
The network lead by FVB-MBI, Berlin runs from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2028 and is funded under the Horizon Europe programme. Altogether, the network will engage 10 PhD students to work on state-of-the-art projects under the supervision of internationally renowned leading experts in the field. The candidates will be exposed to different scientific environments, including small laboratories, large facilities, research laboratories in the private sector and outreach centers.
The LUMIERE network will provide a wide range of training activities including webinars, scientific courses and specific research training modules offered by the different partners of the network. The training programme will be complemented by schools on outreach activities, cutting-edge scientific topics and innovation management, which will be offered during the lifetime of the network.
UCT Prague will host a PhD candidate focusing on “Efficient Approaches for Modelling (Time-resolved) Photoemission Spectra in the Condensed Phase”
Objectives:
- Development of computational technology for modelling time-resolved photoemission spectra in the liquid phase.
- Development computation protocols for modelling photoelectron spectra in the core-electron regime.
Expected results:
- Advancement in the ab initio simulation methodology, allowing for a direct support of the simultaneously developed experimental techniques.
- Development of new software tools.
- Simulation of core level PES of biomimetic switches.
Techniques to be used:
Non-adiabatic dynamics simulations. Ab initio calculations. Statistical mechanics.
Planned secondment(s):
- At Fritz-Haber Institute of Max Planck Society, Berlin with Bernd Winter and Iain Wilkinson for data evaluation and comparison with ab initio theory in the core-level line of research.
- At FVB-MBI, Berlin with Oleg Kornilov for providing direct theory support for the experiments, starting with the oxopyrrole molecule.
- At Scuola Normale Superiore with Chiara Cappelli for expanding the solvent modelling methods.
- At University of Würzburg with Roland Mitric for theory modelling of photoemission spectra.
