The Department of Business Development and Technology (BTECH) at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University invites applications for associate professorship positions in engineering.
An associate professorship is a full-time permanent position. The starting date is 1 September 2026 or as agreed upon. Associate professors balance their time evenly between research and teaching activities. The successful candidates will join the EngTech research section.
Job description
We are looking for candidates who can strengthen our research profile. A significant part of our work involves collaboration with business partners, and we often carry out applied research. Therefore, it is important that candidates conduct research on topics relevant to modern companies, and candidates with research activities involving industry will be preferred.
Research disciplines relevant to the position include:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Operations Management
- Supply Chain Management
Candidates are expected to teach and supervise students at all levels, including PhD students. Our study programme portfolio in engineering consists of an MSc in Engineering (Technology Based Business Development) as well as two Bachelor of Engineering programmes in Forretningsudvikling (Business Development; cyberphysical systems/product and system development) and Global Management and Manufacturing (operations/manufacturing systems and supply chain management). Teaching will primarily take place within these programmes, although teaching in our IT and business engineering programmes may also become relevant.
Permanent employment as associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of, within a two-year period, the supervision course and also the course Online and blended learning provided by Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University.
Non-Danish speakers are required to acquire a working knowledge of Danish within the first 3 years of employment. Where relevant, the department will grant time off from teaching duties to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.
Your qualifications
Employment as an associate professor requires a PhD degree and a strong academic background as assistant professor or equivalent. Furthermore, we prefer applicants with the following qualifications:
- A proven record of strong international research, as evidenced by publications in highly reputed international journals.
- A track record of excellence in teaching on topics relevant for our study programmes.
- A clear, well-developed and viable strategy for future high-level research.
- A track record of good citizenship in the wider academic community combined with a commitment to contributing to a vibrant work environment at our department.
- A commitment to sharing insights and knowledge with the broader society and to prioritising dialogue with practitioners.
- A commitment to teaching that provides the students with relevant competences as well as the ability to reflect critically on business topics.
- A willingness to engage in external research funding activities.
The required qualifications are elaborated below:
Applicants must have produced and published research in addition to their PhD thesis and must demonstrate continued academic development through research publications that go beyond the PhD thesis either thematically, theoretically, methodologically and/or empirically.
Applicants must have at least three articles published or accepted for publication in high standard, international, peer-reviewed journals. A significant part must have been produced after completing the PhD degree. Furthermore, significant publications must have been produced within the previous five years.
Applicants must document significant teaching experience. The applicant must therefore have taught several courses, preferably at different levels and across a range of topics. Five courses are normally a minimum requirement.
Applicants must have some experience in conducting research collaboration, research management and knowledge dissemination, possibly including editorial experience and experience from collaborative research projects.
Application Deadline
All applications must be made online and received by 12 May 2026.
Place of Work
Birk Centerpark 15, DK-7400 Herning.
The Evaluation Process
Shortlisting is applied. This means that an appointment committee (assisted by the chair of the assessment committee) advises the head of department on which applicants possess the qualifications, competencies, experience and potential described above under “Your qualifications”, notably in fields with specific departmental research and teaching needs and in accordance with the faculty’s criteria and guidelines for evaluating candidates to permanent positions.
Through the shortlisting process, the head of department selects the applicants who will receive a thorough assessment of their professional qualifications. The applicants will then be assessed by an expert assessment committee. All applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been shortlisted and forwarded to the assessment committee for evaluation. Shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee.
Please note that the assessment of applicants is based solely on the material received prior to the application deadline.
