Offer Description

Job Summary/offer: This postdoctoral position is based at the Domestication Lab of the Konrad Lorenz Institute of Ethology, Department of Interdisciplinary Life Sciences. The Domestication Lab investigates behavioural and cognitive differences and similarities between wolves and dogs to gain insights into the domestication process. The team currently conducts research at the Core Facility Wolf Science Center, the Clever Dog Lab, and two field stations dedicated to studying free-ranging dogs and wolves.

Responsibilities: 

•   Participation in and independent implementation of research projects in the above-mentioned fields

•   Participation in and independent implementation of research projects in the above-mentioned fields, particularly involving the animals at the Core Facility Wolf Science Center

•   Acquisition of third-party funding

•   Independent preparation and delivery of courses in the English-language Master’s programme in Human–Animal Interactions (IMHAI), as assigned by the University

•   Supervision of students, including holding office hours and conducting examinations, as well as supervision and guidance of doctoral candidates and other students

•   Participation in evaluation activities

•   General administrative and organisational duties

Completed degree in Biology or another natural science, as well as a completed doctorate/PhD

•   Extensive experience in animal behaviour and cognition and in data analysis techniques, demonstrated through publications

•   Excellent skills English (C1)

•   Excellent skills in German (C1)

 

 

Desireable qualifications, abilities and skills:

•   Experience in designing experiments on cooperation and communication involving wolves and dogs

•   Statistical and programming skills, such as R, MATLAB, Python and Bonsai

•   Independent, precise and solution-oriented approach to work

•   Experience in experimental design and student supervision

•   Experience in acquiring research funding

•   Excellent teamwork and communication skills, a high level of commitment and reliability
