Project desciption

Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships 2 (KESS2) is a pan-Wales higher-level skills initiative led by Bangor University on behalf of the Higher Education sector in Wales.

It is part-funded by the Welsh Government’s European Social Fund (ESF) West Wales and the Valleys programme, by partners from the West Wales and the Valleys areas of Wales, and by Cardiff University.

Multiphase reagent flow in microreactors clearly has many advantages for biocatalysis. A massive reduction of processing time is possible when chemical reactions are undertaken in microstructured devices. Within this one year MPhil work we want to investigate how the new extraction techniques for enzymatic reactions can be applied to chemical processes. Investigations on high performance counter current liquid / liquid extractions will be performed in biphasic systems

This research will be undertaken with an external partner, you will also spend time at within industry as part of the MPhil studies.
