EURAXESS Czech Republic is celebrating its anniversary!

For 20 years, we have been helping researchers from all over the world find a new home in the Czech Republic.

It may not sound obvious, but being a researcher in a foreign country is far from easy. Especially when you are just moving to a new country – you face visa bureaucracy, finding housing, schools for your children, or navigating the Czech healthcare system. For 20 years, the EURAXESS network has been supporting international researchers in the Czech Republic with exactly these challenges.

Since 2005, EURAXESS has been a quiet but essential ally for anyone who decides to pursue a scientific career in the Czech Republic and comes from abroad. The service operates under the Czech Academy of Sciences’ Centre of Administration and Operations and has long been funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports – today specifically through the CZERA and STRATIN+ projects.

“We help researchers right from the very beginning – even before they land in the Czech Republic. We support them with residence permits and other entry formalities. Once they arrive, we remain by their side throughout their stay – whether they need help with practical everyday matters or are looking for friends among fellow researchers,” says Markéta Padevětová, head of the Department of International Mobility of the Centre of Administration and Operations of the CAS.

EURAXESS supports not only individual researchers but also their families. It helps them find kindergartens, housing, and also organizes integration activities – language courses, themed meet-ups, or practical seminars about life in the Czech Republic. In addition, it operates the national version of the European EURAXESS portal, where researchers can find job opportunities or professional guidance.

Over the past 20 years, EURAXESS Czech Republic has supported thousands of researchers from all over the world, helping make the country more attractive for international talent and more welcoming to those who wish to stay longer than just a short-term placement.

The first celebration of this anniversary took place on 24 April 2025 and was dedicated directly to clients – international researchers. They met in a friendly atmosphere, shared their experiences, and many of them had the chance to personally meet not only the EURAXESS team but also fellow nationals. The next part of the anniversary celebration will be held in autumn 2025 and will focus on partners and representatives of research organizations who have long cooperated with us in supporting researcher mobility.
